Offshore/Fisheries

The sea has never been an obstacle for those living on windswept islets. The sea is a source of food, prosperity and opportunity. The sea is the future. Life and longing.

Havila Holding has its roots in the fishing sector and a history long focused on the “silver of the sea”.

Company founder, Per Sævik, grew up on the seashore and was skippering his own fishing boat by the time he was 15.

After that, it was all about the fish: herring, mackerel and capelin. New fields, new methods, new opportunities. Per stood at the helm for years, until – in 1981 – opportunities arose in the offshore sector. Now he founded Sævik Supply and steered the company into the oil age. The tiny town of Fosnavåg, on Norway’s west coast, became the country’s largest offshore shipping hub, with numerous offshore supply companies. Several of these had their origins in Sævik enterprises, and in 2003 today’s Havila Shipping was established.

Havila Shipping currently operates over 20 vessels engaged in subsea and anchor-handling operations, supply services and area emergency response. For almost 40 years, the Sævik family has owned companies providing supply services to the offshore oil and gas sector both nationally and internationally.

The oil sector went through a tough period in the 2010s, but Havila saw opportunities even then, and in 2017 invested in Volstad Maritime, to boost its offshore engagement still further.

Havila will always remain involved in the sea. Harvesting and creating.
